What Is PRP?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is prepared from a small sample of your own blood. The sample is spun in a centrifuge to separate and concentrate the platelets, which contain growth factors involved in the body’s natural repair processes.

The concentrated plasma is then reintroduced into the skin — by injection, or applied during microneedling — with the aim of supporting skin renewal. It is commonly used for overall skin rejuvenation, under-eye texture and acne scarring, and can also be used on the scalp (see Hair Rejuvenation).

Is It Right for You?

PRP tends to suit people who prefer a treatment using their own biological material, and who are looking for gradual improvements in skin quality, texture or tired-looking under-eyes. Results vary between individuals and build over a course.

It is not suitable for everyone — certain blood disorders, blood-thinning medication, active infection and some other conditions can rule it out. We review this carefully before treatment.

The Process

Your Treatment Journey

Consultation

We review your medical history and medications, assess your skin and goals, and confirm PRP is safe and suitable for you.

Treatment

A small blood sample is taken from your arm and processed in a centrifuge. Numbing cream is applied, and the plasma is placed into the skin by injection or with microneedling. Treatment takes 45–60 minutes.

Recovery

Redness, mild swelling and possible bruising usually settle within one to three days. Avoid makeup for 12–24 hours, and exercise, alcohol and saunas for 24 hours.

Results & Aftercare

Changes are gradual, typically becoming noticeable a few weeks after treatment and building over a course. We give clear aftercare guidance.

Maintenance

A course of three sessions around four to six weeks apart is typical, with optional maintenance afterwards.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is PRP safe?

Because PRP is made from your own blood, the risk of allergic reaction is very low. Bruising and swelling are the most common side effects. We check carefully for any reasons it may not be suitable.

Does it hurt?

The blood test feels like any routine blood test. Numbing cream makes the skin treatment comfortable for most people.

How many sessions will I need?

Usually a course of three, four to six weeks apart.

When will I see results?

Improvement is gradual, usually noticeable several weeks after treatment and continuing over the course.

Who isn't suitable for PRP?

People with certain blood or platelet disorders, on some blood-thinning medications, with active infection or cancer, or who are pregnant may not be suitable. We review this at consultation.

Can PRP be combined with other treatments?

Yes — it is commonly combined with microneedling.
