What Is the Treatment for Teeth Grinding?
Teeth grinding and jaw clenching (bruxism) often happen during sleep or at times of stress. Over time, they can contribute to jaw ache, tension headaches, tooth wear, and enlargement of the masseter muscles at the angle of the jaw.
Small, carefully placed injections — the same type used for anti-wrinkle treatment — can relax the masseter muscle. This may reduce the force of clenching and grinding, ease associated tension, and, over a few months, can give the lower face a slightly slimmer, softer appearance.
Is It Right for You?
This treatment tends to suit people who clench or grind and notice jaw tension, morning aches or enlarged jaw muscles. It works alongside, not instead of, dental care — if you grind, we would always recommend seeing your dentist too, as a night guard may be needed to protect your teeth.
Jaw pain can have several causes, including joint (TMJ) problems, so we take a careful history and will suggest onward referral if something else seems to be going on.
